Place des VosgesDeparture Place des Vosges

Place des Vosges is the oldest planned square of Paris right after Place Dauphine. Originally named "Place Royale" (Royal Square), its construction on the "Hotel des Tournelles" site dates back to 1605 under Henry IV. It was finally inaugurated in 1612 to celebrate Louis XIII’s engagement with Anne of Austria.

Surrounding the square, you will notice several "Hôtels Particuliers" (pavilions) with magnificent architecture. In the middle of the square, the trees, the grass and the statues all are a witness of the History of the square.

Practical information - From the Place des Vosges to the Bibliothèque François Mitterrand, this 5 km walk will last 2 hours and presents no difficulties.
